Leadership (8th-9th grades)

8th & 9th grades entering for the fall of 2020

LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS

Creative Themes has programs for 8th and 9th graders. We have split the programs into a “Teen Camp”, Two “Leader in Training” and an “Experiencing Leadership”. Enrollment is limited for these programs, so please register soon, and for the appropriate program and weeks.

  • TEEN CAMP PROGRAM
  • LEADERS IN TRAINING PROGRAM
  • EXPERIENCING LEADERSHIP

TEEN CAMP

The Teen Camp program is designed for campers seeking a camp and team experience with their peers but that are not interested in the LIT program. A camper can take Teen Camp and one LIT program.

A challenging and flexible program based around the interest and choices of the group. This program will use the overall camp theme to help develop the camper’s schedule of activities. This is a great opportunity for teens to participate in camp activities that they wouldn’t normally do daily. Their schedule may include fishing, canoeing, art swimming, archery, games, adventure and much more. Campers will still be working with their peers, building relationships with the camp staff, being role models for younger campers and deciding if they want to take leadership to the next level at camp.

LEADERS IN TRAINING (LIT)

The LIT program is designed for campers interested in developing leadership skills in an Adventure based two-week program. These two weeks focus on the fundamentals of working as a team including communication, trust, leadership, conflict management, and goal setting. Included in these two weeks are games and initiatives, challenges, and low and high rope courses.

This program is designed so that campers can only participate in one of the LIT sessions per summer and they need to attend both weeks of the program.

Make sure you read the program flyer and discuss with your child whether they are willing to participate in this program before you sign them up.

An average camp day includes:

  • A morning group meeting to share announcements and discuss/plan the schedule of the day.
  • The group participates in team building and problem-solving games/initiatives.
  • Low challenge course elements are used. When the group has demonstrated they have developed the necessary skills we move into high challenge course initiatives.
  • The group may work on projects, skits, or advanced camp skills.
  • LIT’s eat lunch together.
  • When time permits, LITs will have the opportunity to participate in the camp “Big Group Game” and “Free Time Activities.”

The curriculum is designed so that campers can only participate in one of the LIT sessions per summer. From our experience campers at this age get very bored and become troublesome having to go through repeat sessions. It is important for parents to find some other summer activities outside of Creative Themes to complement the LIT program.

This program is designed for campers who have already participated in a LIT program and are interested in extending their leadership skills. This session is limited to campers who have expressed wanting to learn more and have also demonstrated through the LIT program that they have both the desire and the potential to become a CIT/Counselor. This program focuses on the fundamentals build in the LIT course and includes leading campers in activities/games, initiatives, and high rope elements.

This program is designed so that campers can only participate in one of the Experiencing Leadership sessions.

THEMES

The creative blend of themes and camp activities make the Creative Themes summer program the “Best Camp Anywhere!”

Our staff is American Red Cross certified and will have creative water activities for all ages of campers to do during their pool time. We also allow plenty of free time for creative water play or just “cooling off.”

CANOEING & KAYAKING

Enjoy taking a canoe ride around our pond. Keep your eyes open for frogs and turtles!

NEW GAMES ACTIVITIES

Our games are designed for everyone to participate, regardless of their sex, age, or size. We use foam and plastic for all games. When you play hard and enjoy yourself, you’re a winner!

SPORT NUTS

If you can kick it, throw it, toss it, catch it, bounce it, juggle it . . . we’ve got it! Our soccer balls, softballs, kickballs, volleyballs, tether balls, and basketballs are always in motion. Try them all!

PERFORMING ARTS

The techniques are as varied as your moods. Theater, mime, clowning, juggling, and music are all possibilities. And our spacious “Bear Theater” is the perfect place to show your stuff.

NATURE STUDY

When has anyone ever told you to get your hands dirty? We encourage it! Come to stir up the paints and twist a tangle of colorful materials to create something that is uniquely you!

ARCHERY

Start with the basics — safety procedures, equipment knowledge and handling, rules, and fundamentals. You never know who will be the next Robin Hood! (USA Archery instruction followed)

FISHING FANTASY

Fish in our pond for bass, bluegills, carp, and bullheads. Experience the excitement of netting a turtle or frog! Learn the proper techniques of baiting and casting, and practice to your heart’s content using our “catch and release” approach to the sport of fishing. Catch “Big Louie”!

TEAM CHALLENGE COURSE

A 16- station low element adventure program for campers of all ages and abilities. The course includes adventure games, initiative problems, trust activities, and low-balance exercises. The uniqueness of this course provides an opportunity for everyone to participate, interact, and learn in a spirit of mutual support and cooperation.

TOWER OF POWER

A 4-sided 28-foot rock climbing tower, plus ship’s mast net! Campers will use the tower to develop climbing skills while increasing self-confidence.

HIGH ELEMENT ROPES COURSE
